Privacy Policy
Last updated July 31, 2026
SafeMate helps adults check suspicious messages, calls, links, advertisements, and payment requests before responding. This policy explains what information we collect, why we use it, when it is shared, and the choices available to you.
The short version
SafeMate sends content for scam analysis or transcription only when you choose to submit it. You control who joins your family circle and what SafeMate shares under your selected privacy setting. You can delete your account and associated SafeMate data.
1. Scope
This Privacy Policy applies to the SafeMate iOS app, SafeMate family review features, and communications with SafeMate support. It does not replace the privacy policies of Apple, Google, or other services you choose to use with SafeMate.
2. Information we collect
The information we collect depends on how you use SafeMate. It can include:
- Account information: your email address, account identifier, sign-in method, and limited profile details you provide or authorize Google or Apple to share. Clerk handles authentication and account sessions.
- Profile and family-circle information: profile settings, family-circle invitations and membership, selected privacy mode, trusted contacts, and family review responses.
- Content you choose to check: messages, screenshots, audio or call recordings, transcripts, links, advertisements, payment-request details, and notes you submit. This content may include information about another person, so submit only what is needed and what you have a right to share.
- Scam-check and payment-review records: check history, results, warning signs, timestamps, payment-review requests, and responses from family-circle members.
- Subscription information: SafeMate Pro product and entitlement status, transaction identifiers, purchase or renewal dates, and related subscription metadata. Apple handles checkout, so SafeMate does not receive your complete payment-card details from Apple.
- Notification information: push tokens, device and platform information, notification preferences, delivery information, and the content needed to send a requested notification.
- Analytics and diagnostics: app interactions, feature-usage events, app and operating-system versions, technical identifiers, error logs, and relevant error context processed through PostHog.
- Support communications: your email address, message, attachments, and other information you choose to send when asking for help.
3. How we use information
We use information to:
- Create, authenticate, and secure SafeMate accounts.
- Run the scam analysis or transcription you request.
- Store your check history and show you previous results.
- Send and respond to family-review and payment-review requests under your selected privacy settings.
- Verify and provide SafeMate Pro subscription features.
- Deliver service, account, and safety notifications.
- Diagnose errors, maintain security, prevent misuse, and understand how SafeMate features are used.
- Answer support requests and comply with legal obligations.
4. AI analysis and transcription
When you request a scam check or transcription, OpenAI processes the content you selected and the instructions needed to return a result. SafeMate does not send unrelated messages, calls, or files for AI analysis.
AI analysis and transcription can be incomplete, inaccurate, or misleading. SafeMate is a safety aid, not a guarantee, and its results are not financial, legal, medical, law-enforcement, or emergency advice. Independently verify urgent requests using contact details you already trust. Contact a bank, payment provider, professional adviser, law-enforcement agency, or emergency service when appropriate.
5. Family circles and sharing
Joining a family circle is optional. The account holder chooses whom to invite and selects a privacy mode: Private, Balanced, or Guardian. The selected setting controls what scam-check information, alerts, payment-review requests, history, and review responses family-circle members can see. The app explains the sharing level before you select it, and you may also choose to send an individual item for review.
Guardian is the name of a SafeMate sharing mode. It does not create a legal guardianship or give another person ownership or control of your account, finances, or device. Family-circle members may save or repeat information outside SafeMate, so invite only people you trust and review your settings regularly.
6. Service providers
We use service providers to operate SafeMate. They process information only for the services they provide to us, subject to their contracts and applicable law.
- Clerk: email, Google, and Apple sign-in, authentication, and user management.
- Supabase: Postgres backend and storage for profiles, scam-check history, payment-review requests, and family-circle data.
- OpenAI: the content you choose to submit for AI scam analysis and transcription.
- Apple and RevenueCat: In-App Purchase processing, transaction validation, subscription status, and SafeMate Pro entitlements.
- Expo and Apple Push Notification Service: push tokens, notification delivery, and related device information.
- PostHog: product analytics, technical information, error logs, and diagnostic context.
7. Other disclosures
We may disclose information when reasonably necessary to comply with law or valid legal process, protect the rights and safety of users or others, investigate fraud or abuse, or protect SafeMate. If SafeMate is involved in a merger, financing, acquisition, reorganization, or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of that transaction subject to this policy and applicable law.
8. Retention and account deletion
We keep personal information while your account is active and for as long as reasonably needed to provide SafeMate, maintain security, resolve disputes, and meet legal obligations. Retention can differ by type of information and by service provider.
You can delete your account and associated SafeMate data using the account-deletion option in the app or by emailing support@safemate.family. We may verify your identity before completing the request. Account deletion removes your profile and associated scam-check history, payment-review requests, and family-circle data from SafeMate's active systems. Limited information may remain temporarily in backups or when retention is required for security, fraud prevention, dispute resolution, or law. Information already copied by a family-circle member cannot necessarily be retrieved.
Deleting a SafeMate account or the app does not cancel SafeMate Pro. Apple subscriptions must be canceled separately in your Apple Account subscription settings.
9. Your choices and privacy rights
You can change your family privacy setting, choose what to submit for a check, manage notification permissions in iOS, and update available profile information. Depending on where you live, you may also have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, object to, or receive a copy of your personal information.
To make a privacy request, email support@safemate.family. We may need to verify your identity. Removing SafeMate's access from Google or Apple does not by itself delete information already held in your SafeMate account.
10. Security and international processing
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect personal information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
SafeMate and its service providers may process information in the United States and other countries. Those countries may have different data-protection laws from the place where you live. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for international transfers.
11. Children's privacy
SafeMate is intended for adults and is not directed to anyone under 18. We do not knowingly create accounts for children. If you believe a child has provided personal information to SafeMate, contact us so we can investigate and delete it as appropriate.
12. Changes and contact
We may update this Privacy Policy as SafeMate changes. We will post the revised policy with a new last-updated date and provide additional notice when required by law.
For privacy questions or requests, email support@safemate.family.
